Reflective Aluminum
Reflective aluminum or "lighting sheet" has a mirror like surface and is made from high purity aluminum with specific photometric qualities to control light.
When
placed behind any light source, lighting sheet specifically reflects and directs
the light - just like a glass mirror. The most reflective metals in the world
are silver and aluminum.
Lighting
Lighting refers to either artificial light sources such as lamps or to natural illumination of interiors from daylight. Lighting represents a major component of energy consumption, accounting for a significant part of all energy consumed worldwide.
Reflection
Reflection is the change in direction of a wave front, at an interface between
two dissimilar media, so that the wave front returns into the medium from
which it originated. Common examples include the reflection of light, sound
and water waves.
Reflection of light may be specular (that is, mirror-like) or diffuse (that
is, not retaining the image, only the energy) depending on the nature of the
interface.
Diffuse Reflection
In a plain
mirror, a parallel beam of light changes its direction as a whole, while still
remaining parallel; the images formed by a plain mirror are virtual images,
of the same size as the original object.
Reflection of light may be specular (that is, mirror-like) or diffuse (that is, not retaining the image, only the energy) depending on the nature of the interface.
Specular Reflection
In specular
reflective aluminum, a beam of light reflects off the surface at an angle
of reflection that is equal to its angle of incidence. That is, if the beam
of light is shining on the surface at a 30° angle from vertical, then it reflects
from the point of incidence at a 30° angle from vertical in the opposite direction.
Lighting Sheet
Lighting sheet is a general industry term to describe high quality reflective aluminum produced to meet specific optical properties, used in various lighting applications. Lighting sheet allows for maximum light distribution and reduced energy consumption.
Reflective aluminum lighting sheet surfaces range in total reflectivity from 84% to 98% and include Specular Mirror, Embossed Specular, Semi-Specular and Diffused finishes that have specific optical values. The best performing lighting sheet in the world is Anolux® MIRO-SILVER®, with an unmatched minimum total reflectivity (TR) of 98%.
